CBSE : READING WEEK 2020

Celebration of Reading Week from 8th September to 14th September 2020

International Literacy Day is celebrated every year on 8th September to highlight the importance of literacy for individuals and the societies as well as the need for augmented efforts towards more literate societies. The basic form of literacy is being able to read and write. Reading promotes literacy and is a simple way to keep students’ minds stimulated and focused. It also helps in the development of skills like creative and analytical thinking.

The following are the activities which you can take up to celebrate the Reading week and sharpen your reading habits :

ACTIVITY-1: JOY OF READING

Have a joy of reading books of your interest available in your homes or on internet. Your yourself can select any book or else the library will share the list of books and links from where you can download the books free of cost. The list will be updated on library blog soon.

ACTIVITY-2: ONLINE SESSION STORYTELLING

We will schedule an online session with an author, poet or storyteller to bring reading to life and to inspire students to read more. This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon

ACTIVITY -3: ONLINE SESSION SHORT STORY

We will arrange online reading sessions wherein you all may be encouraged to:
a. share the short stories written by you
b. share the review of the book of any genre read by you
c. enact, recreate timelines of events, characters, etc. on the basis of the poem/story/book read by you
d. share the story of the person who inspires you the most.

ACTIVITY-4 : LITFEST

Organize online LITFEST where various characters interact with each other. The details will be updated soon

ACTIVITY-5 : READ-A THON

Organize online Read-a-Thon wherein Fastest Reader of Class may be acknowledged. The details will be updated soon.

ACTIVITY-6: ONLINE BOOK BUDDIES

Make Online Book-Buddies wherein students may be paired to choose and read a book and then present the findings before the class. This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon.

ACTIVITY-7: READING & FINE ARTS

Reading stories/ poem/ book etc. and drawing pictures, posters etc. on the basis of the poem/ story/ book read.This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon.

ACTIVITY-8: STORY ACTION

Debating and defending the actions of characters in the story/book read. This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon.

ACTIVITY-9: AUDIO STORY

You can make an audio story out of a novel/ text read.Encourage students to make reading games/ puzzles/ riddles. This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon

ACTIVITY-10 : READING GAMES/RIDDLE/PUZZLE

This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon.

ACTIVITY-11 : CREATION OF STORY MAPS OR COMICS STRIPS

To create Story Maps or make comic strips.

ACTIVITY-12: COSTUME PARTY

Organize online book character costume party wherein students dress up as their favorite children’s book characters and have a party. If costume not available, you can create mask and act.This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon

ACTIVITY-13: ROUND ROBIN STORIES

Have tell round robin stories orally wherein a teacher may start a story and then each student in the class tells the next part of the story. Once finished, the story may be read aloud.This shall be organised during the Library Class or through Google Meet. The details will be updated soon

Important Note

The activities carried out by you during the Reading Week can be assessed as part of the Subject Enrichment Activities for classes up to Secondary level.
